Author, musician, playwright; Award winning and nationally acclaimed, Dr. Chibundu Onuzo just cannot get it wrong and her Midas touch strikes again in her latest project, ‘1991’, an hilarious autobiographical theatrical comedy about her life from early childhood to date.

Taking us a winding journey with a plethora of song, music, dance, poetry and prose, we follow Chibundu’s journey from her earliest years growing up amongst the elite of Lagos, Nigeria until old enough to be transported across land and sea to the unfamiliar and culturally foreign boarding schools of the United Kingdom.

The play features Chibundu herself as leader of the many storytellers with a robe of gold cleverly woven into the narration of the story so we can quite easily follow its path. The language of the play is fun and vibrant, the performances energetic and the issues raised poignant and provocative.
